Who would think that donating blood could be fun? By highlighting with
humor all the amazing things someone could do while donating we produced continuing
upticks in donation volume, fewer blood shortages, and a coveted Emmy Award.

Another problem that thwarts motivating blood donations is the easy excuses some
have for shying away. So, we decided to playfully shame those selfless reasons for saying no.
Together with the companion Emmy-winning “Amazing” campaign, asking people to be
a “Bigger Person” assuaged those fears as evidenced by donation increases.

In 2018, CCBC was facing increased competition from large, national blood suppliers.
Tapping into the pride local people share, we repositioned CCBC as a one-of-a-kind and irreplaceable
advocate for the health and wellbeing of the entire Central Valley. Proud to say we won; after two years
of this campaign bringing home our message, the national blood suppliers retreated.
